FRP Negative Pressure Fan: A Practical Selection Checklist

An FRP negative pressure fan should be selected from the conditions it will face and the airflow duty it must deliver. The label “FRP” alone does not confirm that a particular fan is suitable for a process, chemical exposure, temperature range, or installation. Before ordering, compare the application details with the supplier’s model-specific documentation.

1. Describe the operating environment

Give the supplier a clear description of the air being moved and where the fan will be installed. Include the process, expected contaminants, moisture or washdown exposure, temperature range, outdoor exposure, and any unusual operating conditions. Where substances are present, identify them and provide concentrations or process data when available. These details help the supplier assess whether the proposed construction is appropriate.

2. Verify what “FRP” means for the offered model

FRP construction can differ between products. Ask for the exact construction and material information for the fan model, including the specified resin system, reinforcement, and the materials used for parts that contact the air stream or exposure. Check the supplier’s written compatibility guidance against the conditions you provided. Do not assume that the FRP label by itself proves chemical compatibility or a particular service life.

Also confirm which components are included in the material description. Fasteners, guards, shutters, seals, supports, and other accessories may use different materials. Request documentation for the complete configuration you intend to purchase.

3. Match airflow data to the installation

State the ventilation objective and ask for the fan’s documented airflow performance at the expected system resistance. The opening, mounting arrangement, guards, shutters, and any connected ductwork can affect the operating conditions. A fan’s size or free-air figure alone is not enough to confirm that it will meet the required duty. Review the supplier’s performance information for the specific model and installation.

For background on how a negative-pressure ventilation arrangement is planned, see our negative-pressure exhaust fan ventilation guide.

4. Check electrical, mounting, and service details

Before final selection, verify the model’s electrical requirements against the site supply and installation plan. Confirm the fan dimensions, opening size, mounting support, direction of discharge, weather exposure, access for inspection, and the procedures needed for cleaning and service. Ask the supplier to identify any installation limits that apply to the chosen model.

Questions to send with an inquiry

  • What air or process conditions will the fan handle?
  • What airflow duty and system resistance are required?
  • What exact materials are used in the offered configuration?
  • What model-specific performance and electrical documents are available?
  • What opening, support, clearances, and service access are required?

Frequently asked questions

Does an FRP fan automatically suit every corrosive environment?

No. Construction and material compatibility vary by model and exposure. Provide the actual process conditions and obtain written, model-specific guidance from the supplier.

Can I choose the fan using room area alone?

Room area can be one input, but selection should also account for the ventilation objective, airflow requirement, and resistance created by the planned installation. Ask for performance data relevant to the operating point.

What should I verify before placing an order?

Confirm the complete construction, documented airflow duty, electrical requirements, dimensions, mounting conditions, and maintenance access for the exact model and site conditions.
